Rise Up Residency | Margate Mercury

If you’ve been out and about for a stroll around Margate recently, then chances are you’ve already encountered at least one of the mammoth new murals gracing the walls in a number of our public spaces. 

Rise Up Residency, a week-long mural festival and educational programme with a long-term scope, was the result of a vision one year in the making, spearheaded by the collective efforts of acclaimed local artist Louis Masai and Margate-based initiative Rise Up. Clean Up. Described by Louis as “an ocean awareness campaign fuelled by murals to activate stories the ocean would want us on land to know about”, the event welcomed a host of curated international and local talent; creating a vibrant array of public artworks that seek to raise awareness and promote constructive discourse around ocean conservation, and the critical role that we all play as coastal custodians…
